Spear and Jackson Southern Counties Bill Hook

As a first time buyer of a bill hook, of any kind, my impression of this item is that it is a good quality, solidly built peice of kit. I bought the item to split rods to make a fence and for this purpose the bill hook is adequate. I still have to learn to split rods evenly but i suspect this is due to needing more practise in the art of splitting rods rather than the tool's ability.

Bought this item to help clear some scrubland on my property. Haven't had a chance to use it properly just yet, other than on a sample area where it seems ok. Looks and feels very well made and expect it will do the job perfectly.

Well made tool, very solid, and was very sharp, had been pre sharpened. does the job really well, should last for years.

With a name like spear & jackson you would expect quality. This is not. There is a flat of about 1 mm across parts of the cutting edge, the steel is easily dented with nothing more than a table knife and the washer retaining the handle is misplaced leave a sharp edge flush with the back of the handle. In a word junk. on a lighter note, the service from tool-up is first class.
