Palm Sanders Information
Palm Sanders can encompass a variety of different machines and are usually either orbital sanders, random orbital sanders or delta sanders. The thing they all have in common is that they are compact and designed to be gripped in the palm of the hand. This makes them well suited to more precise tasks like sanding the end grain of a piece of wood or when working inside confined spaces. They are also lightweight, meaning they cause less fatigue when sanding at elevated height or for longer periods (although their smaller size means they can also take longer to finish a job than alternative machines). Here's our Quick Application Guide:
• Random Orbital Palm Sanders - these use circular sanding discs and give a superior finish to other types of sanders due to the eccentric action of their sanding plates. Ideal for general purpose use.• Orbital Palm Sanders - these use rectangular sanding plates. They are less aggressive than random orbital sanders and do not give as good a finish. However, they are actually sometimes called finishing sanders because a common application for them is lightly sanding varnish in between coats. As well as this, their rectangular shape means they can get into corners and up against solid borders where a circular sander would be ineffective.
• Delta Palm Sanders - also called detail palm sanders, these have triangular shaped sanding plates which are designed for improved access in corners and compact workspaces.
