Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between a putty knife and a filling knife?

Whilst the terms are often used interchangeably, putty knives traditionally have stiffer blades designed for glazing work, whereas filling knives feature more flexible blades ideal for applying filler to walls and woodwork. Vitrex offers both styles to suit your specific application.

How do I maintain my Vitrex putty knife?

Clean your knife immediately after use with warm water and a cloth, removing all traces of filler or compound before it dries. Dry thoroughly to prevent corrosion, and occasionally apply a light oil to the blade to maintain flexibility and prevent rust.

Which blade width should I choose?

For detailed work around mouldings and tight spaces, choose narrower blades (25-50mm). For filling larger wall areas or spreading compounds, wider blades (75-100mm) provide better coverage and efficiency. Many professionals keep several sizes to hand for different tasks.
