Town & Country was established in 1985 by entrepreneur Barry Page as a subsidiary to his Baron Handbags group, which he had set up in the swinging Sixties after identifying a lucrative business opportunity in the young women who worked in Leicester’s hosiery factories. Similarly, he realised that there was a gap in the market for women’s gardening gloves, and using his manufacturing experience, began to create a range of specialist gloves and gardening equipment, alongside leather tool pouches and kneepads for the DIY sector. The company has since grown to become one of the UK’s leading brands in the gardening industry, with a reputation for innovative design, styling and affordability.
