Read 18 Customer Review(s) for Bosch PBD 40 Workshop Bench Pillar Drill
The Bosch pillar drill is very good value especially with the electronic variable speed control. The speed and depth digital displays are excellent. If I have to give negative feedback to this drill, two things stick out: 1 - the chuck appears to be more suited to a hand drill which is disappointing. 2 - there is a slight movement in the spindle/quill but I think for my requirements, this will not be an issue. So far I am very pleased with the pillar drill.
Firstly five stars to TooledUp for delivering this way before estimated date and also at a price about 10-15% less than many other outlets. I've been using it for a couple of weeks now and it's easily on a par with other Bosch power tools I've bought. Good solid engineering, accurate drilling, very acceptable noise levels, small footprint, very easy assembly from box, quick bit change from keyless chuck. There's nothing else on the market to compare with this on price. Most rivals have cumbersome belt-change speed system, the Bosh is electronically controlled - very precise. Buy one now, you'll wonder how you ever managed before.
I saw this advertised on the website. This is a magnificent bench drill. What makes it great its accuracy to put on a laser line and know exactly where you're going to drill and the feature that I love the best is to drill a hole the same depth every time this reduces making mistakes. Mistakes cost money
As a hobby tool this does exactly what I want. The depth guage is great, the electronic speed control works well, the clamp is useful and the size, reach, depth and chuck size all adequate. The lights and lazer sights are a gimmick (but impress the neighbors) and, if you are concerned enough about chuck wobble that you need to measure it, then I suggest you buy something a lot more expensive. My only "complaint" would be that the wheel is not as efficient as a 4 handled star, in that if you are drilling deep you have to reposition to continue. Other than that... For the money? ace!
Up to the usual bosch quality. Nice features are - keyless chuck, variable speed and quick release clamp. Some slight movement of drill chuck when drill engages work but less than many i have used in the past. Only disappointment was the condition of the packaging when delivered. It looked like a second hand unit with dents and scratches on every surface of the bosch box. Inside everything was obviously new with nothing in resealed bags etc. So bosch and tooled-up probably not to blame. More likely the carriers. Although i suspect many would refuse delivery of anything in similar condition. I nearly did. I think perhaps bosch, tooled-up and carriers might benefit from some form of outer protection. as it does what i think it says, or should say, on the box i'm happy with my purchase.
Now that i have got it working good for what i want it took me three days to fathom out the problem was to take out the bit (out of chuck)the book says unlock then turn chuck anticlockwise well if you are standing in front of drill looking straight at chuck you will turn chuck left to right which i did turns out the more i did this i was tightening it it took me 3days to release bit eventually bit fell out then i could see what i had been doing wrong i still think this needs looking at i asked 8 different people to turn chuck anticlockwise and they all did the same as me(so we must all be bloody thick) must have sent dave 6emails he was very obligeing (ithink)any everthing ok now
