Oil Stone Sharpening is a traditional European method of sharpening. We stock a wide range of long wearing oil stones, available with different grits and in different sizes. The oil stones are made from either aluminium oxide, novaculite or silicon carbide.
The most traditional option is to choose an Arkansas Stone, which is made from natural novaculite. There are different grades and densities to choose from, and these have an effect on the finish that the blade will receive.
For a fast sharpening oil stone, that will result in a sharp edge, choose India Stones made from aluminium oxide. The fastest sharpening oil stones are Crystolon stones, and these are made from silicon carbide. For a particularly sharp finish, it's best to start with this product for initial coarse sharpening and finish with an alternative oil stone.
