Reciprocating saws are a vital component of any toolbox, equally at home in the garden or on the building site. Reciprocating saws are a powerful cutting tool which can be used to cut through almost any material. DeWalt reciprocating / sabre saws use a unique power delivery to push and pull the blade which allows for quick and efficient cutting of almost any material including wood, steel and stone. This makes them suitable for demolition jobs where a powerful saw action is required.

The powerful sawing action of reciprocating saws means they are not able for applications where a precise clean cut is required. This means they are not suitable for carpenters, furniture makers or joiners, who would be better off using a circular or jigsaw. What they are suitable for is light demolition work such as the removal of floor joists, stud walling, fencing posts and metal pipework. They can also be used to trim concrete blocks and cut the holding nails of door jambs for quick and easy removal.

DeWalt reciprocating / sabre saws are available with a number of power outputs to suit both domestic and commercial applications, with the most powerful models also having variable speed settings. This allows the user to tailor the saw settings to suit the material being cut. For example, a slow setting can be used on hard materials such as steel, while a faster setting can be used on soft materials such as wood. This allows the user to make short work of all types of material including stone, wood, steel and concrete.

Domestic DeWalt reciprocating / sabre saws are available with 1100 watt motors which deliver enough power to cut through wood, steel pipes and concrete blocks with ease. All saws also come with DeWalt’s unique orbital cutting action which alternates between a reciprocating and elliptical motion to provide a more aggressive cutting action for softer materials such as wood. For harder materials such as concrete blocks, a pure reciprocating (forward/back) motion can be used.

Commercial DeWalt reciprocating / sabre saws are available in a range of configurations and power outputs, from 1200 watt mains powered motors to compact battery powered devices. This diversity allows you to choose a saw to suit your application or working environment with ease. Mains powered machines are perfect for large-scale demolition jobs while smaller battery powered devices are perfect for small-scale alterations and trimming jobs.

DeWalt reciprocating saw cordless models run on a single 18/54v XR FLEXVOLT convertible battery pack which provides enough power to cut through 42 metres of 15mm oriented strand board (OSB) on a single charge. The unique XR FLEXVOLT battery pack is standardised across the range and can be used on other DeWalt cordless power tools that use either 18 or 54v power and is backwards compatible with older models. This powerful system completely eliminates the restrictions of conventional batteries to deliver a cordless solution with zero compromises.

All DeWalt reciprocating / sabre saws also come with DeWalt’s 4-position tool-free blade change, which not only ensures reliable cutting action it allows the blades to be changed quickly and effortlessly without the need for special tools. This reduces the risk of blades breaking while in use and significantly reduces work downtime. The stainless steel coating also prevents the clamp from corroding so there is less risk of the mechanism seizing up over time. A common problem with other keyless systems.

A complete range of DeWalt reciprocating saw brushless motor models are also available. Brushless motor technology does not suffer from the increased friction or voltage drop that conventional motors do. This not only increases the life of the motor it improves cutting performance. Battery performance is also improved because power outputs are automatically matched with blade resistance, unlike a conventional brushed motor which operates at full power all the time.

All models can also be fitted with a range of DeWalt reciprocating saw blades. Replacement blades are available to suit all applications from wood to masonry and concrete. BREAKAWAY blades are also available which allow users to break-off a used section of the blade, reducing the need to throw away half-used blades. Breakaway sections are available from 1” to 6” and come variable tooth patterns of 14/18 TPI to maximize cutting performance.
