It can be used freehand or with a rip fence but the baseplate is also designed to slot directly onto Festool guide rails from both the FS and FSK series, meaning that both cross cuts and long rip cuts can be achieved with effortless precision. Thanks to battery power, the HKC 55 KEB can be taken wherever the work needs to be done - whether you're working on the ground, up on the roof, or out in the middle of nowhere. Safety was a top priority when Festool designed the saw, and it has a number of features which help to prevent injury as well as accidental damage to materials. For safely and conveniently lifting the guard out of the way before making a cut, there is a dedicated lever next to the front handle which keeps your hand well away from the blade during the process. To help ensure timbers don't close back up while you're cutting and pinch the blade, the saw is equipped with a riving knife which goes a long way to preventing conditions that can create a kickback. But for an additional layer of protection, the HKC 55 KEB also has an electronic KickBackStop system which is designed to instantly apply the brake in the case of any sudden reactionary forces causing the blade to jump back out of the material during use. This version is supplied complete with an FSK 420 cross cutting guide rail included, as well as an FSZ 120 clamp for securing it in position.
