Bahco tools is one of the oldest tool companies, with 165 years of history making the best in high-quality products. You can tell a Bahco product - and its high quality - by the fish and hook symbol that mark all of their tools, ensuring that they are produced with the highest standards in steel production.
History of Bahco
Bahco was founded in 1886 by the Swedish inventor Johan Petter Johansson as Enköpings Mekaniska Verkstad. It was this man that invented the plumber wrench in 1888 and the adjustable wrench in 1891 and 1892. Ownership shifted in the 1890s and again in 1916 when Johan Petter Johansson sold his stocks. In 1954, the company name was changed to AB Bahco, which was an acronym of the previous name - BA Hjorth & Co.
Various acquisitions followed, and by the 1960s and 1970s AB Bahco consisted of four different large companies: Bahco Ventilation, Mecamen, Bahco Tools, and Bahco Sudamericana, which all produced different product lines. Snap-on Incorporated later acquired a saw business and branded as Bahco Group AB. In 2005, Bahco AB merged with another tool company and branded Bahco as the premium line of their brand, establishing the headquarters in Paris, France.
Today, Bahco is a leading producer and manufacturer of building supplies, tools, and materials. Their extensive experience designing, producing, and distributing hand and power tools has made them a household name in tool manufacturing, trusted for their reliability and performance.
The Fish & Hook Logo
The Högbo Stål & Jernwerks AB (founded by Göran Fredrik Göransson) company was using the Bessemer process to produce high quality steel in 1862. Four years later, in 1866, they went into bankruptcy and were refunded by Sandviken Jernverks AB in 1868 to keep producing steel. The new technology used to produce steel at this time worked great for a variety of steel wire purposes, especially the production of fishing hooks.
These fish hooks needed to be hard and strong, but not brittle. Because of the use of steel in the production of fish hooks, The Swedish national board of trade approved the Fish and Hook trademark to be used in 1879, at which point it was established. In 1886, Göran used this same process to produce saw blades of the same quality as these fish hooks. In order to reflect the high quality steel they used for production, they applied the fish and hook logo to their blades. Even today, Bahco still uses this logo to brand their products and reflect their company heritage and high standards of production.
